Record Tourism Numbers Prove Sarasota is On the Rise

Sarasota County is starting to become the world's worst kept secret. With exquisite fresh Gulf cuisine, nearly 40 miles of inviting beaches and shoreline, world-class shopping and art galleries, along with a unique history as the Circus Capitol of the World, the word on Sarasota is out and the numbers prove it.

For the second year in-a-row the city of Sarasota has recorded eye-popping tourism numbers. According to a report from research company Downs & St. Germain, over 2.3 million tourists visited Sarasota during the fiscal 2016 year, which ended Sept. 30. The total economic impact of tourism in the county for the year is an estimated $2.8 billion dollars.

One area of targeted growth is sports tourism. On Nov. 17, officials announced Sarasota would host the 2018 World Sailing Annual Conference, marking the first time the event will take place in the United States. The event that brought in more than 400 participants from more than 100 countries this year. In addition to Sailing, Sarasota will also be hosting the World Rowing Championships in 2017 in Nathan Benderson Park.

As the economy in Sarasota continues to grow, the city has seen an increase in interest for permanent residents. Downtown developments like Kolter Urban's, The Mark Sarasota, have been grabbing the attention of the tourists that would one day like to call Sarasota home.
